"It's not someone who's seen the light. It's a cold and a broken Hallelujah." -- Leonard Cohen

Well, I dropped off my resume yday at LU for a part-time English tutor job. (What's it the rest of the time? Spanish?)

Thank you to my friends, notably Shroom and Sylvia, who provided templates and advice re. my resume, cover letter and ref sheet. For quite a while I felt very overwhelmed by the thought of drawing these things up, its having been years since I have done this before -- if ever.

Let me think. I joined CSSM Ministries (at Dorion Bible Camp) part-time in the fall of '86 in order to fill in for Andy James' religious ed classes in public schools. (That was all the fun of classroom teaching and none of the pain of discipline -- "Okay, if you don't want to listen, I can always turn back over to ________ for Math."  "No no no. We'll be good!")

I don't think I was even asked to fill out an application form, let alone provide a resume (which would have listed simply university, May/June work at the library and summers at Camp at that point and 2 years part-time at TB Christian School). I recall a brief interview with the Branch Director and a board member, but that was a formality, since they already knew they wanted me. (I'd already completed 9 summers at Dorion by then.) And I knew that that's what I wanted to do.

Then the next May I went to National Conference/Candidate School to learn about what I had been doing for the previous 8 months. At the graduating ceremony, I went to the front to receive my pin and whispered to the National Director, "Am I in?"

I got the job at TBCS because Susan Sutherland recommended me as someone to take the English part of her load which (it being her first year, I believe) was too much for one person. I do recall an interview (theological questions is all I remember) with board members. Again I don't remember having to put together a resume or a "I am seeking employment in a creative and dynamic blablabla" statement.

For my current part-time job with the Anglicans I did draw up a handwritten resume from memory. I was at Camp Gitchigomee at the time and there are no computers, photocopiers there currently. (Well, actually I think there might have been laptops, but I'm not sure about a printer.) Rev. Peter Smyth of the selection committee was coming out for the day and I was heading to Manitoba Pioneer Camp right at the end of the week. Under the circumstances, I think it was acceptable. There was a panel interview and of course references and a Police Records Check.

So I guess -- in this form -- it was pretty much a first for me (at 46!) I wouldn't mind your praying about the results of course. Thanks.
